I haven’t met anyone yet who hasn’t expressed some unfulfilled desire, if they only had the time, the money, or the correct circumstances. When working with a client I explore what they would do if they have $100 Million dollars sitting in their checking account or had only five years left to live.

What would you do? What life would you create for yourself? What unfulfilled dream do you have that having money or a deadline would allow you to fulfill?

Most of us spend most of our time trying to figure out the “how” of getting what we want, rather than using our brain for what it was designed for — to be imaginative.

Do you know that if you sat in a chair and imagined yourself lifting weights for 30 minutes you would get 80% of the results you would get had you physically really done the weight lifting. This has been proven in various studies, some showing even higher than 80% results.

Your brain is capable of things that scientists are now only starting to prove.

I believe that we are all connected to a vast, invisible intelligence. Einstein said that there are no new ideas. He was referring to the ideas already being out there — it just takes us tapping into this intelligence to “download” them.

Some people call this intelligence God, others the Universe or the Source. It doesn’t matter what you call it, what matters is that you believe you can connect with it. It’s kind of like being connected to the internet. You can send information out into the internet, or you can find information you need from the internet.

Have you ever had an “ah ha” moment? Where did this thought come from? Or perhaps you woke up one morning immediately knowing the answer to a problem you have been trying to solve. How did this information get into your thinking?

Manifesting is just the ability to put out to this intelligence a clear vision of what you want and then getting out of your own way and letting the Universe conspire to bring it to you.

I have experienced this happening in my own life for many years now, over and over again.

I am in New Mexico as I am writing this and have a great story of something that happened a few days ago that illustrates this phenomenon perfectly. My husband and I took a drive to Madrid, New Mexico one morning. Madrid is a refurbished ghost town that is filled with quaint little shops selling art, pottery, jewelry, clothing, and more. Madrid is situated on the Turquoise Trail, a gorgeous route with amazing scenery that runs from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.

I had been on the hunt for a watch but had found nothing to my liking as I wanted something that was unique, timeless and could be worn with just about anything. We happened to walk into a small shop that was owned by a young man who proudly showed us some of the jewelry he had made. I looked in another display case and saw some incredible watches like nothing I had ever seen before. I asked him about them and he said they were made by an artist in New York where he was originally from.

He then began to tell me the story of how he had left New York to work for a local artist and then went out on his own after only two years. It was a dream of his to have his own shop and to be able to create his own jewelry. His work looked very similar to the artist’s watches from New York and I asked him about that. He said that he had always admired this artist’s work and it had been his dream to someday sell his work in his shop. He had never met the artist when one day, soon after opening his shop, in walked a gentleman who was impressed with this young man’s line of jewelry. He stated that he saw similarities to his own work. The young man said, “You’re not from New York, are you?”

Sure enough, it was the artist from New York whose work the young man had always admired. The young man told him he knew who he was. The artist said, “How did you know that?” The young man replied, “I have always admired your work and hoped one day to be able to sell your line in my store.”

The artist then said, “Well, it just so happens that I have this line of watches I’m making. How about I give you 15 and if they sell well we can discuss you getting more?”

The young man lit up like a Christmas tree when he was telling me this story. He then said to me, “Things like that don’t happen by accident. I mean, he could have walked into any shop here in Madrid but here he was in mine.” I said, “Yes, there are no accidents. The Universe led him here, don’t you think?”

He replied, “Oh, absolutely. After talking further to him he had been in Albuquerque and at the last second decided to visit Santa Fe before going home, and then, rather than taking the expressway, again, on a whim, decided to take the Turquoise Trail instead which led him to Madrid. If he had taken the expressway route he wouldn’t have come through Madrid.”

The moral of this story is that this young man didn’t have to figure out a way to get this artist to agree to allow him to sell his line of watches. He just had to use his imagination to see himself already selling them. The Universe then arranged for it to all come together.

Stop wasting your time on the how — imagine it’s already done — then go about your business and watch the miracles unfold. If it can work for a young man in Madrid, NM to get an artist from New York City to show up in his shop, it can work for you. It’s worked for me.

Just 5 minutes a day — visualizing what you want as having already happened — then allow it to occur. And don’t be impatient. It will happen when it is supposed to.

Believe it. Now go have some fun and visualize your wildest dreams having already come true. Just be careful what you wish for!

Yes, that’s right. Now you know why I haven’t posted anything for awhile. On March 26th, while walking into an office building on the east side of Madison, WI, I tripped and dislocated and broke two of my fingers on my (dominant) right hand.

I had been to this building before. Over the winter, in the courtyard, a section of concrete had sunken about 1 1/2 inches. While walking across this concrete courtyard my foot caught on the higher section of concrete and it propelled me into the air landing on my right hand.

My very first thought after seeing that my fingers looked very messed up was “Oh no, what if I can never play the piano again.” I didn’t realize until later that that was a life-changing moment for me.

I’ve been playing the piano for 50 years now. I started when I was six years old and by fifth grade was playing Chopin’s Minute Waltz in recitals and school contests, not an easy feat for a small child. I was good. In eighth grade I remember playing a Chopin Nocturn in a school contest. My piano teacher worked hard with me to get it perfected. Then, the judge in the contest ripped my interpretation to shreds. I was 13 years old and I played the song the way my teacher taught me to play it and I hit every note perfectly. I remember his huge handwriting on the judge’s evaluation and I was heartbroken. Despite every person who told me I played wonderfully, including my piano teacher and my parents, I believed this judge. After all, he was a judge, an authority figure, a musician, and happened to be the band director at the local high school.

That deep hurt of believing I wasn’t “good enough” stayed with me my entire life. I never stopped playing the piano, but I didn’t often play for anyone but myself. I kept my music private. In the past few years I have been working on my singing (where I had similar “not good enough” stories when I was in high school) and decided it was time to bring that out of the closet, so to speak, but my piano playing was not part of my plan to go public.

Then, my fall happened. What a wake up call. The thought of never being able to play again scared me to my core. It brought to the surface th0se old memories of what others had to say about my music — the overwhelming great comments and the few negative ones — and with the thought of almost losing the ability to play I had the epiphany to let go of those negative beliefs, ignore my old naysayers and play the piano for the love of it and share my music with others. Whether others love it or not is not important to me — playing because I can and because I love it is what’s important.

I don’t think I can put into words how powerful a shift this has been and how grateful I feel that along with mending physically, I have mended emotionally and no longer feel “not good enough” when it comes to my music.

What dreams have you given up on because someone else said you weren’t good enough? Or you’d never succeed? What if they were wrong (in all cases they are — they can have their opinion but that’s all it is, an opinion.) You’re the one, like me, that turned their opinion into a belief. And that’s the GOOD NEWS — beliefs can be changed.

You can be or do anything you put your heart and soul into — the only one stopping you is you — and you don’t need to wait for the fear of almost losing something to bring it to the world.

I thank God that it’s never too late to start again. I don’t know where I’m going to go with my music, but with my doctor’s permission I’m already playing a few scales, and when my fingers mend, my piano is going to be used daily.

I never thought I’d say that breaking two fingers would be one of the best things that has ever happened to me, but it was! It gave me the gift of realizing just how precious my piano playing is to me.

I encourage you to think back to your childhood and undo any beliefs that you took on that are not serving you today. It’s never too late to start again. Do those things you love to do — become who you want to become — live your life doing what you love and ignore what anyone has to say about it but you. Yours is the only opinion that matters!

You deserve to have a life that is filled with doing things you love to do.

Play, sing, write, dance, act, paint, build, create — do anything you love to do and do it with passion. Your life will be the better for it!

In the world of diamonds, the 4 C’s are everything: Color, Cut, Clarity, and Carat (I know this because I LOVE jewelry).

In life, my 4 C’s are: Clarity, Consciousness, Congruency and Celebration.

Clarity is having a very clear vision of what you want your life to look like.

Consciousness is being aware of everything you are doing in thought, word and deed to create that vision.

Congruency is thinking, speaking and acting in a consistent manner that is aligned with your vision.

Celebrating happens when you realize, at a very conscious level, that yes, indeed, your thoughts, words and deeds are congruent with the clear vision you have for your life (which means you are creating the life of your dreams so celebrate!)

If this all sounds a little murky, let me put it this way.

Clarity is critical to you living the life of your dreams. You have to be clear on what that looks like. What does your perfect day look like? What do your perfect home and work environments look like? What do perfect relationships look like? You get to decide, get clear, and create these things.

Consciousness and Congruency really are all about choices — are you making conscious choices, in the moment, that are aligned with helping you create the life of your dreams — or — do your thoughts, words and deeds keep you from living the life of your dreams because they are not aligned with your vision?

I once heard Dr. Wayne Dyer say, you cannot lose weight if you keep telling yourself how fat you are. The same applies to money — you cannot create wealth if you keep telling yourself how broke you are, or how much in debt you are, or how limited you feel about making money, or any number of other thoughts that are not aligned with wealth creation.

So here’s my recommendation for living the life of your dreams:

Get clear, Get Conscious, Get Congruent, and then Celebrate — to the best of your ability, each and every day. And if you do that, like your life depends on it (it does, by the way), one day you’ll realize that you are living the life of your dreams.

I know, because I’m living it, and the best part is, you don’t have to be perfect at this — you just need to be aware, catch yourself when you’re being unconscious or incongruent, get back on the path, and keep moving forward.

Align your thoughts, words and deeds with your vision at least 51% of the time and you have it made. (Although 75% of the time might get you there faster!)

For the past several years I have been doing a lot of research around the causes of the 2008 financial meltdown. I’m not obsessed with this subject, just trying to understand what, if anything, we can do to keep this from happening again in the future.

As a good investigative journalist will tell you (and I’m not one, I just heard they say this), when the trail gets cold, follow the money.

We all know that the five largest banks in the U.S., Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, received bailouts in 2008 from the U.S. Government to the tune of between $10 and $25 Billion (with a B) depending on the bank. This was the “too big to fail” philosophy.

What you may not know is that the Fed also loaned banks trillions (with a T).

In an article that appeared on ABC.com on November 28, 2011 written by Bill McGuire, it states:

“Fed Loaned Banks Trillions in Bailout, Bloomberg Reports

In a story that sheds new light on the extent of the country’s financial crisis, Bloomberg Markets magazine reported today that the Federal Reserve lent trillions of dollars to beleaguered financial institutions, with $1.2 trillion going out on just one day in 2008.

“The Fed didn’t tell anyone which banks were in trouble so deep they required a combined $1.2 trillion on Dec. 5, 2008, their single neediest day. Bankers didn’t mention that they took tens of billions of dollars in emergency loans at the same time they were assuring investors their firms were healthy,” Bloomberg reported today. ”And no one calculated until now that banks reaped an estimated $13 billion of income by taking advantage of the Fed’s below-market rates.”

Bloomberg Markets said it went over 29,000 pages of Fed documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and central bank records of more than 21,000 transactions.

“Saved by the bailout, bankers lobbied against government regulations, a job made easier by the Fed, which never disclosed the details of the rescue to lawmakers even as Congress doled out more money and debated new rules aimed at preventing the next collapse,” Bloomberg reported.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke had argued back in 2008 when the crisis hit that revealing borrower details would create a stigma that would have led to more banks collapsing. And the Fed fought to keep the details of the loans, which totaled $7.77 trillion, secret long after.”

The Fed is not an agency of the U.S. Government. From Wikipedia: “According to the Board of Governors, the Federal Reserve is independent within government in that “its monetary policy decisions do not have to be approved by the President or anyone else in the executive or legislative branches of government.” Its authority is derived from statutes enacted by the U.S. Congress and the System is subject to congressional oversight. The members of the Board of Governors, including its chairman and vice-chairman, are chosen by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The government also exercises some control over the Federal Reserve by appointing and setting the salaries of the system’s highest-level employees. Thus the Federal Reserve has both private and public aspects.”

So the big banks get bailed out to the tune of Trillions of dollars while many in America are still struggling. I believe we can do something about this.

First, I’d suggest if you are doing business with any of these banks, to any extent that you can, you move your money to local community banks or credit unions. Do a little homework and figure out which local banks or credit unions best support their communities and the people who live in them. This not only includes your checking and savings accounts, but also credit cards. Do not close your paid off credit card accounts as those open lines of credit help you with your credit scores, but move any balances you have to local community banks or credit unions. And consider moving mortgages, auto loans, personal loans and business accounts and loans. The more you can move your money through your local communities, the better.

Second, we can buy locally. We can all help our economy by buying from people who live and work in our communities. And that means all products and services. The more we can send our money to local businesses, the more people they need to hire, the more people have jobs, the better the local economy.

And, since I’m on this subject, buy food locally, as much as possible. Again, we are helping the people who live and work in our communities, not to mention that we will actually be eating nutritious food for a change.

We can make a difference. We can use our money consciously to support our local communities and improve our local economies. Remember, it’s small businesses that create the most jobs. We don’t need “too big to fail.” We need each other.

This may not be the whole solution, but it’s a start. I say: “Support Your Local Everything” — hmm…., that would look great on a T-shirt, don’t you think?

Are more creative people happier? I don’t think so. But I do think that those of us that use our creativity are happier.

Everyone is creative. I know some people don’t think they are, but everyone has two sides to their brain, and creativity lies in the right side.

Now if you were like me, a highly creative person, working in a world of predominantly left-brainers (analyzers, bottom liners, problem solvers, numbers people) after awhile you would begin to think that you didn’t have a right brain.

I worked in accounting firms for 10 years. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against accounting firms, but when you take a woman who is predominantly a right brain person by nature (lover of music, art, writing, dance, creating) and dump her in a left brain dominant environment for ten years, she begins to wonder if her right brain is dead after awhile.

And, then, when she comes out of that environment, and begins to use that right brain she was given, well, let me tell you, it was like being a child again — the colors were all brighter, the birds sang louder, everything looked a little “new,” and life was great.

It got me to thinking about the 75% of the workforce that is not engaged in their work. Is it because, like me, their creativity has been stifled. They are told to “fit in,” not think for themselves, not innovate, or have ideas. They are told to conform.

Is this how their joy begins to disappear?

We (I’m speaking about all of us here) are creative human beings by nature. If that creativity is stifled, does that lead to this discontent with our jobs?

Do we start to feel like a square peg in a round hole?

I know I did — how about you?

And, what do people do about it?

I’d suggest that until they can leave that environment, or find a way to be more creative in their work, that they be as creative as possible outside their job.

Paint, sing, dance, write, build, knit, cook, play a musical instrument, build sandcastles, play games with their children, or their dog

Do anything that gets those creative juices flowing.

I’d really be interested to hear if you agree with my theory. I have no research to back it up, but somehow it really feels right to me.

Since I have had my own business, and have had the opportunity to create new things each and every day, my health, wealth and happiness have all increased.

What about you?

Did running your own business change things for you like it did for me?

If not — get more creative. Today!!! Running a business is all about being creative, after all, you’ve taken nothing and built something. That’s creativity in anyone’s book

So if you’re feeling a little stifled, get creative. You’ve got nothing to lose, and you might find yourself having some fun.

Until next time…..

Yes, my friends, thoughts do become things. What we think about creates the world is which we live. You know this to be true. We’ve all known someone who is always broke, or always sick, or always has some crisis or drama going on, and we tend not to want to spend too much time with them because all we ever hear about is what is wrong in their life.

If you’ve experienced what I’m talking about then you can see that they are perpetuating their own circumstances by always thinking about what’s wrong. It’s all they ever talk about. They often blame others for their circumstances and can’t seem to ever find a silver lining in any cloud that comes their way.

On the other hand, you may know someone who seems to be the luckiest guy or gal on the planet — everything they touch turns to gold. Do you hear them constantly telling you how awful things are? I highly doubt it. They just live the good life, and when some challenge presents itself, you hear them say something like “oh, well, that’s no big deal. Something good will come out of it, it always does.”

I always thought I was one of those people that thought only thoughts of abundance, until the day when I caught myself having an internal argument on whether to leave a 15% or 20% tip on my breakfast bill. Now I know that leaving 15% is OK, but come on, it was breakfast. The difference was $1. The waitress did a good job. And yet, there I was thinking, “Well, I don’t want to over tip.”

Why not? If I truly felt I had more money than I needed would I have even thought about this or was this scarcity thinking. Yep, scarcity thinking.

Here I was, having a 30 second discussion in my head about how maybe over tipping was one way I was spending more than I should be.

Well, let me tell you, after that incident I sat myself down and had a long talk with myself about how people who feel abundant are willing to share that abundance, because they believe more money is always on the way.

Now I’m not saying we should be throwing money away. Being a good steward of our money is important.

But the way to become a money magnet is to believe that you are always attracting more money — you can feel free to share because more is on the way.

I took a Prosperity class about 10 years ago where I first became acquainted with the work of Catherine Ponder. Rev. Ponder was a Unity minister who was a single mom, raising a son, living near the poverty line, when, through researching the Bible, discovered the dynamic laws or prosperity. (Her book by the same name, “The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity”, was published in 1962 and still contains some of the best information I’ve come across on how to attract money into your life. She also became a very rich woman!)

On Page 34 of that book she states: “I have observed in talking with hundreds of people who have gone from failure to success that it is what we really think deep within ourselves most of the time, rather than the ‘big front’ we may put up to others, that unconsciously attracts like results to us. There is an age-old maxim that says, ‘We are where we are because we are what we are, and we are what we are because of our habitual thinking.’ ”

She goes on to say, “Each of us is a magnet! And as a magnet, you do not have to force success and prosperity to yourself. Instead, you can develop that exalted, expectant, prosperous state of mind that is a magnet for all good things of the universe to hasten to you, rather than entertaining the tense, critical, anxious, depressed, unforgiving, possessive state of mind that is a magnet for all kinds of trouble and failure.”

This stuff was written in the early 1960′s! It still amazes me!!

Well, I can assure you, I no longer argue with myself over holding back anything I wish to share of my abundance. I have changed my thinking. I now hold a belief that each day more and more health, happiness, and prosperity is one its way, and when I think life can’t get any better, somehow it does. It’s amazing!

So here’s the bottom line — guard your thoughts, your words and your actions. Catch yourself when you are thinking anything that even hints at scarcity thinking. Believe that you live in an abundant universe because you do. You will be healthier, wealthier, and more fulfilled as a result, and you’ll love looking at your bank account!!

The AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) Personal Financial Planning conference was recently held in Las Vegas. While I didn’t attend, I’d like to share some comments made by one of the keynote speakers, Ron Insana, a senior analyst with CNBC. This information was published in a newsletter, Inside Information (catchy title) written by a highly respected journalist for financial professionals who I also consider a personal friend, Bob Veres. I have Bob’s permission to share this with you.

It starts out with a little perspective: “Insana invited us to look back to late 2008, when he took his last trip to Las Vegas and found the hotels largely empty. ‘People thought we were heading into a new Great Depression,’ Insana told the audience. ‘When you tracked mutual fund flows, a staggering amount of money was leaving the system.’

Later analysis convinced him that we had come within three hours of another financial institution going into free-fall and taking the whole financial system with it….Who, Insana asked us, could have imagined that three years later the economy would be in growth mode, the system would be healthy and Las Vegas would have regained its prosperity? The social safety net of unemployment insurance and food stamps, he said, was largely responsible for avoiding the mass poverty and bread lines of the 1980s.

‘Our government went straight to the solutions, the easing and low interest rates and backstopping the systems,’ Insana told the audience. ‘Contrast that with Japan where the Nikkei fell from 40,000 in 1990 to 8,000 today, and they’re still working their way out of the doldrums.

In retrospect, he told the audience, when the Fed went all in to rescue the economy, it was a powerful signal to buy American risk assets.

Insana said that today the largely-untold story is how quickly America is rebounding. He said that government tax receipts have picked up, and the budget deficit is falling, largely on its own, to manageable levels — a story that you aren’t hearing anywhere int he press or in the Republican primary debates. ‘We are experiencing a manufacturing renaissance in the U.S., which is flying totally under the radar,’ he told the group. ‘In China, they are now recognizing that the currency and wage difference between manufacturing there and in the U.S. has become so small as to be trivial. Since 2008, crude oil production in the U.S. is up 18%. We produce more natural gas than Russia,’ he added. ‘On a net basis, the U.S. now exports more energy products than we are importing.’

Meanwhile, Insana said, the younger crowd of buyers now thinks American cars are hot for the first time in a generation, and the sales rate for domestic automobiles recently passed the crucial line of 13 million units. ‘If that ticks up a bit, American autos will become wildly profitable,’ he said. He expects the real estate market to come back into a balance between housing stats and home purchases, and noted that corporations and big banks are EACH holding $2 trillion in cash on the sidelines. Corporate America and the banking system are dramatically overcapitalized, and a lot of money is waiting to be recycled into the economy.

This explains why Insana is optimistic. ‘The market will do better than most people expect, the economy will do better, and we are on the cusp of energy self-sufficiency, which will shock the world,’ he said. ‘We could soon be running current account surpluses. Budget deficits are coming down, and in our energy independence, we will change the geopolitical equation, becoming less reliant on oil from nations that fund hostile activities. We are on a much better path economically and even politically than most other nations.’ Our political system, he added, is ugly to watch, but it is ultimately healthy.”

I’d say that was a pretty positive report on the state of the economy, but remember, good news doesn’t sell newspapers or boost TV ratings.

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling much better!

As a musician (I’m a singer and pianist) I was saddened to hear of Whitney Houston’s death. Much has been written about her so I’ll keep this short.

I tuned in to part of her “going home” service and heard something that really resonated with me that I wanted to share with you. It came during Kevin Costner’s speech. He stated at some length that Whitney Houston never thought she was good enough, beautiful enough, or talented enough. I was surprised to hear this, but perhaps I shouldn’t have been.

A feeling of “not being good enough” often reflects itself in our financial situation, and Ms. Houston reportedly was having financial difficulties prior to her death. (The truth around this has not yet all surfaced but early reports say she was being foreclosed on in two homes, despite having signed a $100 Million recording contract 10 years ago.)

We hear stories all the time of lottery winners ending up broke, famous athletes declaring bankruptcy, trust fund babies throwing money away like it is poison. Many of these individuals just don’t feel they deserve all that wealth.

And, at some level, many of us have the same thing going on. We put up with jobs that are not fulfilling, relationships that are less than ideal, or other external situations simply because somewhere, deep down inside, we don’t feel we deserve better.

Well, we do.

I’ve seen in my own life how improving how I feel on the inside improves my circumstances on the outside. By believing I am good enough, worthy, and deserving, and living from a place of love, and kindness, and compassion, I appreciate more of what I already have which tends to attract even more — more abundance, fulfillment, health, joy, great relationships, etc. etc.

Love yourself a little more today by doing something for someone else — anything — it doesn’t have to be big. A kind word, or a big smile, or holding the door open for something, or just looking someone in the eye when you are talking to them makes them feel better about themselves.

It will make you feel better about yourself too — try it!
